General Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Molecular and Biochemical Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biology, Bioinformatics
Learning Outcomes
The understanding by the postgraduate students of the new scientific and technological discoveries in the wider field of health, with the use of the sciences of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Molecular and Biochemical Pharmacology, Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, Biology, as well Computational and Biological methodologies in therapy that could lead to more targeted therapies but also to a more timely diagnosis of diseases that make patients suffer. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of the new technologies with the rapid development of vaccines (DNA / mRNA vaccines). Furthermore, new therapies have been developed, like immunotherapies with the use of monoclonal antibodies (mabs) to fight diseases, including cancer and COVID-19, new cell therapies (immunocytotherapy - CAR T therapies) as well as gene therapies awaiting approval (e.g. for rare diseases). A decisive role for these new treatments comes from the regulatory framework that governs them and allows, under the appropriate conditions, the approval of their administration as well under what conditions, by the regulatory agencies (like EMA / FDA).
