Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. understand the basic concepts of regional development
2. analyze the historical development of regions and the inequalities between them
3. understand the role of regional policy implementation, and critically approach regional policy measures.
4. understand the basic concepts of tourism planning and acquire skills to be able to formulate policy proposals for tourism at local and regional level
5. be able to contribute to solving real regional development problems with reference to the tourism sector.

1. Introduction to spatial analysis. The concepts of space and development
2. The concept of region. Classification of regions
3. Regional problem, regional inequalities, regional development theories
4. Regional inequalities in Greece and the European Union
5. Regional policy: objectives, strategies and means
6. Regional policy in Greece and the European Union.
7. Tourism as regional development factor.
8. Tourism and regional development in Greece
9. Regional tourism planning for sustainable tourism development.
10. Case studies
