With the successful completion of the course students
- will become familiar with multimodal text techniques of analysis
- will develop their knowledge regarding multimodal rhetoric through the study of theoretical texts
- will connect theory with practice through laboratory assignments
- will get some practice on the translation of multimodal means of persuasion
- will become familiar with computer-aided translation tools
Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of multimodal rhetoric translation, as seen in various digital genres and different cultural contexts. Students become familiar with multimodal text analysis techniques through the study of theoretical texts and their participation in team projects. Additionally, they get some practice on the translation of multimodal means of persuasion based on different translation models and theories. Special emphasis is given to the multimodal facets of persuasive discourse in multilingual websites (corporate, NGO, public service, universities, political parties, etc.), in news videos and commercial spots. The assessment is done through progress tests and a final assignment.
