Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the course, the students will be able: • to describe the basic characteristics of transportation systems and logistics and supply chain management systems and apply the systematic approach to transportation, • to know the organization of the transportation system at the national, trans-European, and international level and the role of combined transportation, cargo unification, new technologies, and freight terminals, • to understand the terms of competition in freight transportation, • to have the basic skills of designing, organizing, and managing warehouses, and • to design accessible transport chains for People with Disability (PwD).

Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Historical development of transportation systems. 2. Futurology and reality of transportation systems. 3. Systematic approach, key concepts, definitions, and application of transportation systems. 4. Main elements and characteristics of transportation systems. 5. External costs and environmental impact of transportation systems. 6. Organization and management of transportation systems at the national and international level. 7. Terms of competition in freight transportation in Greece. 8. New trends and technologies in freight transportation systems in Europe and the world. 9. The logistics system, its basic elements, and the relations between them. 10. Intermodal, multimodal, and combined transport. Packaging and unification of loads. 11. Organization of freight terminals. 12. Organization and operation of warehouses. 13. Universal design of transportation systems for People with Disability (PwD) and hindered persons.
