To approach the ideological currents, the targets and the requests of the period. To understand the passing from the empires to the national states, the national Churches, and the postmodernity, in relation to the mystery of the Church which services the eschatological perspective of the human being in the changing world.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The lesson deals with the history and the literature of the Church o Greece, especially the configuration of the autocephalous of the Church of Greece, as a consequence o the ideology of the Enlightenment and the origin of nationalities that leads to the disintegration of the existing unity of the Orthodox Genus, the "Romiosyne" the Rum millet which regards as center and mark of reference the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the "ethnarchousa" Church of Constantinople. The national constitution creates in Greece the first orthodox autocephalous Church in the Balkans. We approach the ideological conditions of the decision of 1833, the edition of the Patriarchal and Synodic Tome of 1850, and also the continuity of state in the whole 19th century in the Church of Greece compared to the jurisdictions of the ethnarchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, especially with the reforms - "Tanzimat" and the General Regulations during the 19th century. Also ecclesiastical texts of this period are presented, discussed and studied.
