<p>Α Degree awarded by a Greek public University or by a recognized foreign Institution of equivalent status or by a Technological Education Institute related to the<strong> </strong>Interdepartmental Postgraduate Studies Program is required. Students from the ERASMUS exchange programme are also accepted.</p>

<p>To obtain their qualification from the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Study Programme (IPSP) "Food Hygiene and Biotechnology" of the Schools of Biology and Veterinary Medicine the postgraduate students have to successfully complete the 3 semesters that correspond to 90 ECTS (Ministerial Decision no 67145/B7<span style="color:windowtext;">, Official Government Gazette of the Hellenic Republic no 1889/2007/B). In the 1st semester, which corresponds to 30 ECTS, postgraduate students attend and are examined in 5 compulsory courses. In the 2nd </span>semester, which corresponds to 30 ECTS, postgraduate students (a) attend and pass 1 compulsory and 3 elective courses (15 ECTS) and (b) work on a Masterthesis. The Masterthesis may be either Research (15 ECTS) or Bibliographical (12 ECTS). In case they prepare a Bibliographical Masterthesis they are required to attend and pass 1 additional elective course (3 ECTS). In the 3rd semester (30 ECTS) they continue working on the Research (30 ECTS) and the Bibliographical (18 ECTS) thesis. In the case of the Bibliographical MasterThesis, students also carry out an Internship (12 ECTS). Upon completion of their MasterThesis, students present it in public and are subsequently examined.</p><p>The purpose of the IPSP is to provide high quality postgraduate education and to create specialized scientific personnel in individual areas of Food Science, capable of enhancing the competitiveness and productivity of the country, to contribute to research and to be directly integrated into the job market and to provide services, with direct and indirect positive effects on society, the economy and sustainable development, at regional, national and European level.</p><p>The IPSP will equip graduates with skills and know-how regarding: 1. the understanding of basic concepts, techniques and applications of food hygiene and biotechnology in modern times, 2. basic training in innovative analytical methods in the field of food safety, food quality and food biotechnology; 3. the identification of different categories of food hazards (biological, chemical, physical) and the application of methods for microbiological and chemical analysis of food and water; 4. understanding the importance of innovative and functional foods; 5. understanding industrial practices at the level of food production and food safety management systems; 6. acquiring transferable skills such as scientific methodology and ethics; 7. gaining practical experience (i) in academic research and (ii) in the job market; 8. encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship in the field of Food Science.</p>

<p style="margin-left:44.05pt;">The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.</p>

<p>3 SEMESTERS, 90 ECTS</p><p>A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) units and each semester to 30 ECTS <span style="color:black;">(1ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). </span></p><p>Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). </p><p><span style="color:black;">Each course is credited with a number of ECTS (>=2) according to the student΄s workload (</span>contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of the course.</p>
