Learning Outcomes
By the end of the theoretical part of the course (the 2 hour weekly lectures), students are expected: (a) to familiarize themselves with the basic principles of scientific research and ethics in psychological research and with different research approaches, in order to better understand the empirical evidence that is presented in their courses and textbooks. (b) to be able to design and conduct an experimental study. By the end of the lab (the 2 hour weekly excersises in small groups), students are also expected: -to better understand the empirical evidence that is presented in their courses and textbooks, -to be able to design and conduct an experimental study.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course is an introduction to basic principles of scientific research. Steps in conducting scientific research. Types of scientific research. Quantitative and qualitative research approaches.Ethics in psychological research. Types of variables. Scientific hypothesis. Sampling.Reliability and validity of measurements. Observational methods, interview methods,questionnaires. Basic concepts and principles of experimental research. Types of experimental designs. Comparison studies (cross-sectional studies, longitudinal studies, and cross-cultural studies). Basic principles of writing a scientific paper. The course involves: (i)2 hours weekly lecture (Teacher: P. Metallidou) (ii)2 hours weekly exercises in small groups of students on methodology issues (Teachers: P. Metallidou, D. Moraitou, D. Tata).

Description
All the information about the course is on the E-Learning (Moodle). Lectures and exercises are presented via power point. Use of ICT in experiment design and administration. Communication via e-mail, especially with students who are not able to follow some lectures due to special needs.

Description
All the course information as well as the evaluation process are on the E-Learning (Moodle). Assessment method for the lectures: final written examination (60%). Assessment method for the workshops: 4 individual tests (20%) 1 mid-term exam(20%).
