Learning Outcomes
Based on the guidelines of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and levels 6, 7, and 8, students who successfully complete the course will have acquired the following knowledge, skills, and competencies: Knowledge: - In-depth understanding of the concepts of bilingualism, bilingual development, and bilingual education. - Comprehension of the different forms of bilingualism, bilingual development, and bilingual education, as well as the factors that affect them. - Familiarity with the processes and mechanisms involved in bilingual and multilingual development. Skills: - Analytical thinking and ability to identify the critical factors affecting bilingual development and education. - Ability to interpret data from bilingual/multilingual speakers based on theories and studies on bilingualism/multilingualism. - Ability in using and managing research tools for the collection and analysis of data from bilingual and multilingual speakers (e.g., sentence repetition tasks, story narration, etc.). Competences: - Ability to work independently and conduct individual research in the field of bilingualism, utilizing appropriate theoretical and methodological tools. - Teamwork and ability to exchange ideas and data within a scientific framework through discussions and collaborations with fellow students and faculty members. - Critical and self-reflective thinking in analyzing data from bilingual and multilingual speakers, recognizing the limitations and challenges of the studied theories. - Designing research projects aimed at developing new ideas and hypotheses regarding the development and teaching of Greek as a second/foreign language and as a heritage language. - Adaptability to new situations, such as working in international or interdisciplinary environments, through in-depth engagement with developmental patterns and educational frameworks.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course provides an in-depth examination of bilingualism from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It explores key linguistic, cognitive, and sociocultural theories of bilingualism and investigates how these inform educational policy and pedagogical practices in multilingual contexts. Students will critically engage with current research, assess bilingual education models, and develop pedagogical strategies that support bilingual learners.

Description
The assessement consists of a variety of methods to ensure that many different skills are developed and assessed. More specifically, written assignemnts, oral presentations, and written and oral exams are part of the assessment methods, which require the development of several skills, such as academic writing, synthesis, theoretical understanding, referencing, application of theory, critical thinking, educational insight, reflective analysis, oral communication, content mastery, engagement, use of visual aids, research, argumentation, originality.
