The students should have basic knowledge in phonology, morphology and syntax of German language.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course handles the first and second language acquisition with focus on the acquisition of German. After a short introduction in Psycholinguistics and in the methods of language acquisition research the basic terms of bilingual language acquisition and the most important theoretical approaches to language acquisition will be presented. Another topic will be the description of the stages of the acquisition of German. Moreover, we will refer to other topics related to bilingualism, such as features of the language production of bilingual speakers, the relation between bilingualism and cognition and the distinction between typical and atypical bilingual language acquisition.
