School as a professional learning community in the context of a democratic school culture
The aim of the course is to highlight the importance, presuppositions and processes of supporting the school as a professional learning community that collaborates, explores and reflects collectively in order to develop a democratic school culture for the benefit of students. The course analyzes the various dimensions of the school's operation as a learning community and their support processes. The dimensions of a democratic school culture are also analyzed. Emphasis is placed on supporting research and reflection by members of the school community as prerequisites for participatory and evidence-based decision-making and the design of educational interventions with a democratic and inclusive orientation. Examples of the school's function as a learning community are presented in key school functions such as the formation of the school's vision and policy, the planning and evaluation of the educational work, teaching and learning, the support of student councils, the participation of the members of the educational community in the co-formation, implementation and evaluation of their decisions.
