Basic knowledge of bee biology, and beekeeping practice
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: a) distinguish the bee and the bee organism and its defense mechanisms b) distinguish beekeeping flora and bee nutrition c) know the basic principles of sustainable bee colony management d) distinguish the contribution of bees to pollination effects of climate change on bees the production and post-harvest management of beekeeping products and the basic methodologies for quality assessment of beekeeping products

Course Content (Syllabus)
The bee and the bee colony. Defense mechanisms of the bee and practices to strengthen them. Diet of the bee. Βeekeeping practices throughout the year. Treating enemies and diseases without chemicals. Beekeeping flora. Bees and pollination. Bees and climate change. Legislative framework for organic beekeeping. Production and post-harvest management of quality beekeeping products. Beekeeping operations that affect the quality of the hive products. Residues in hive products.
