Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to understand the different concepts that govern intercultural education, such as: culture, multiculturalism, interculturalism, crypto-colonialism, etc. They are also expected to understand the historical evolution from national literatures to interdisciplinary and post-colonial studies today, as well as the theoretical axes that differentiate them. Finally, they are expected to recognize and be able to process the influence of the arts - literature, etc. - as they are applied in the various sub-sectors of human activity (education, immigration, identities).

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on intercultural encounters in Europe. The course is structured by a theoretical introduction, which will first clarify the theoretical framework on the basis of which literary texts and various art forms are examined today and will examine concepts such as land demarcation, migratory literature, hybrid forms, transnationalism, interculturalism, creation of identities, crypto-colonialism, post-colonial studies. The main body of the course deals with primary texts from literature and art, as well as with basic periods of cultural history, where the individual concerns are highlighted. Examples from the 20th century to the present: The German occupation and the extermination of the Jews, the history of immigration in the 1950s and 1960s, the current absorption of the academic proletariat in northern Europe, the economic crisis in literature, tourism and crypto-colonialism, the theater and the refugees etc. The aim of the course is to use the text as a basis a) for the deconstruction of stereotypes, b) for the redefinition of identities and intercultural relations, c) for the understanding and acceptance of cultural diversity and finally d) for the reduction of literature to a universal tool of applied democracy.
