Learning Outcomes for Principles of EU Economic Law Course:
Understanding of the EU Legal Order:
Students will gain a comprehensive overview of the EU legal system, including its values, objectives, competences, institutions, legal acts, and hierarchy of norms.
Students will analyze the relationship between the EU legal system and national legal orders, focusing on fundamental principles such as direct effect and primacy of EU law.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the EU system of judicial protection.
Mastery of EU Internal Market Law:
Students will trace the evolution of the EU constitutional architecture from the Common Market to the Internal Market.
Students will examine the EU fundamental economic freedoms, including the free movement of goods, workers, services, and capital/payments, and their connection to European citizenship.
Students will analyze the impact of internal market regulation and the harmonization of national laws on the functioning of the Internal Market.
Knowledge of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) Law:
Students will understand the constitutional architecture of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) within the EU legal framework.
Students will analyze EU monetary policy and its connection to the common currency, along with the changes in EU economic policy post-financial crisis and the role of the European Stability Mechanism.
Students will examine the establishment and functioning of the European Banking Union within the context of the EMU.
Application of Legal Principles through Case Analysis:
Students will apply legal principles learned in the course to real-world situations by analyzing landmark cases such as Dassoville, Cassis de Dijon, Bosman, Centros, Ruiz Zambrano, Google Ireland, BONVER WIN, Commission v. ECB, Pringle, Gauweiler, and others.
Students will critically evaluate and draw conclusions from case law, demonstrating an ability to connect theoretical knowledge to practical legal issues.
These learning outcomes aim to ensure that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills in applying EU economic law principles to legal scenarios.
